About "Your Soul Will Save Mine":

Bordering on the collapse of demon society in the city of Dis, Vitula, just having finished her third watcher assignment, is assigned a new human named Kali. As a watcher demon, it is her duty to make sure that her human does not stray from the path of fate. When Vitula slowly realizes that the human she was assigned to watch over is far from anything she's experienced before when it comes to humans and could possibly be the key to demon liberation, what kind of adventure will this match made in hell find themselves in?

The World in YSWSM:

The City of Dis:

Where the story begins and a majority of it takes place. Loosely based off of the city of Dis from The Divine Comedy. Where demons that are levels 1-20 reside in their respective districts.

Society in the City of Dis:

In Hell, demons are assigned positions or jobs by higher-level demons and whatever job they find themselves in is non-negotiable. Some of the various roles available are the following: Soldier, Counselor, Watcher, Apparition, and so forth. Once assigned, the demons will move out of the district that they previously resided in and go to their job's district.

When demons are born, they are named by the voice of Vitrum in the ears of the mother. Privileges and opportunities that are within reach for demons depends on the median of the levels of their parents. If a demon is the child of a single parent, then the median of that parent's level along with the number 3 will determine their birth level. In Hell, especially in the city of Dis, it is wildly accepted that if a demon is raised by one parent instead of two they will be intellectually stunted, so they try to keep them at lower levels. The highest level you can reach in Hell would be level 50 but after reaching level 20, if you don't somehow surround yourself with incredibly powerful and violent demons, you will find it difficult to continue gaining levels. As is expected, this is impossible for a majority of demons. Gaining levels can be done by completing various tasks determined by the Omnipotens Tribus. The following tasks are a few of the tasks accepted by the Omnipotens Tribus as worthy of summoning a Leveling Hearing for level 1 demons, keeping in mind the numbers will continue to rise as the demons climb the ranks: killing 100 of an enemy species or civilization in the name of Vitrum, sacrificing one of your own blood if requested, working at assigned job so diligently that your effort is noticed by the lead demon in your district, successfully securing the fates of 10 humans, delivering the head of a traitor to the Pool where Vitrum rests, and so on. Some tasks are more easily completed by a certain assigned job but any completed tasks are worthy of summoning a Leveling Hearing, regardless of their assigned job.

Once a demon reaches 100 years old, regardless of their parent's levels, they will be forced to move into a city that is respective of their own level. If a demon was lazy during their childhood, they might find themselves at a considerably low level. Contacting their parents after being demoted to a lower level would be impossible, as only higher-level demons can contact lower-level demons that find themselves in the City of Dis, not the other way around. Most of the parents that have lower level demon children will simply not reach out until their child has reached their level again because there is typically a sense of shame that comes with the fact they could not get their own child to match levels with them. Once a demon reaches 200, they are assigned their official job. As soon as they are assigned a position, they have to move to that respective district.

Characters in YSWSM:

Vitula:
The main character of this series. At the very beginning of the story, Vitula is a level 7 demon assigned the Watcher role that is 540 years old; looks about 20 in human years. Vitula is assigned to a human named Kali, and while this is not the first human she's been assigned, she can't but childishly feel something special with her. She has not told anyone about her feelings because is anyone, especially any of the higher-level demons in her district, found out that she had begun to feel more than simply a guardian demon towards her assigned human.

Kali:
Vitula's assigned human. 19 year old college student pursuing a degree in biology who is currently in her second year. Kali is completely oblivious to Vitula's existence and impact on her life. Read more to continue learning about who Kali is alongside Vitula...

Mori:
One of the most influential characters in this series, and demon in the city of Dis. Mori is a Level 18 demon assigned the soldier role. Secretly, alongside many other demons of various levels, she has been planning a revolution that will change the course of society in the city of Dis permanently. Mori is incredibly skilled when it comes to engineering and has built multiple weapons and objects that higher-level demons would turn her into the Omnipotens Tribus if they found out about. Mori and her team have been keeping a close eye on Vitula and have observed her one-sided relationship with Kali, while Vitula has no idea that anyone but herself knows.

Vitrum:
One of the most powerful demons in Hell. The Omnipotens Tribus report to Vitrum about anything and everything they see and hear, as well as any decision they have to make. No one has ever seen Vitrum's genuine form, instead, he communicates with those below him by speaking into the ears of whomever Vitrum is contacting. Refusal to listen to the voice of Vitrum will result in a public execution. If someone needs to call upon Vitrum for guidance, they must go to the Pool in the Sectioning district, where all the souls of recently deceased humans lay, and slice your arm open with the ceremonial dagger and let it pour for 3 minutes. Once those 3 minutes are up, Vitrum will listen to a single request from the demon that bled out and speaks to that demon alone. The demon must then listen to Vitrum and not reply or return to Vitrum for guidance for the next 150 years. If a demon returns before they are allowed to have Vitrum speak to them again, that demon's head will either be placed on a stake and left outside of their parents, or any living relatives', place of residence or permanently disfigured as a message to others.
